Cognitive Science
Test 2 / 2005
Modified:
2005-03-10
Instructions: Due before 2:10 p.m.,
Thursday, March 17.
Use the CS main page and pages you find on your own, and e-mail
sent to you as the source for your answers. Submit your answers as
hard copy.
Answers should be legible (i.e., not hand written), complete,
thoughtful, and articulate. You may consult with me via e-mail as you
develop your answers (probably a good strategy). Shoot for at least
one page per question (double spaced) and do not simply copy and
paste answers. Use quotes to indicate sources you found elsewhere and
provide URLs or references where appropriate.
Failure to properly cite sources may lead to
a grade of zero for that item!
1. Pretend you are a Martian scientist and you are describing the
human brain for the first time, start from the spinal cord and
explain to your fellow Martian scientists the structure of the human
brain.
2. I just gave you an iPod photo (see: http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/).
Discuss your new toy in light of its visual and auditory properties.
Tell me the first two things you will do with it and why.
3. Go to: http://www.apa.org/monitor/feb05/hues.html
and summarize the article. Then, briefly discuss its theoretical
implications for the interaction of language and thinking.
4. Make up a text messaging exchange between you and I discussing
your final grade in Cognitive Science. The exchange must have at
least 10 lines (5 from you and 5 from me). Tell me how you put your
exchange together and what Web sites you used to help you.
